The Expression 4 Upgrade Costs Less Than You Think…

For less than the cost of a café Latte—you can upgrade from Expression 3 to the new-and-improved, Expression 4. Not one of those fancy Cherry marshmallow Mochas. Not even a Carmel Macchiato. For much less; in fact, for nothing. Nada. Zilch. Bupkiss. Zero-point-zero-zero ($0.00).

We appreciate your investment in our Expression products, and this is one investment that is giving you a dividend. Because we released Expression 4 less than a year after Version 3, we’ve decided to make Expression 4 available to all purchasers of Expression 3. And it’s easy to get.

How to Upgrade to Expression 4—Retail Customers

First—you must have purchased a retail copy of either Expression Studio 3 or Expression Web 3. If you purchased Expression products via Microsoft Volume Licensing, please see the instructions below. If you received Expression through a Spark program (e.g. Dreamspark or WebSiteSpark), or via MSDN, you’ll need to download Expression 4 through the subscription mechanism associated with that program, when they make Expression 4 available.

Second—Expression 3 must be installed and licensed on the machine you will install Expression 4 on (or, it must have been installed on that machine at some point).

Third—download the appropriate Expression Studio 4 Trial version.

  To upgrade Expression Studio 3, download Expression Studio 4 Ultimate.
  Expression Studio 4 Ultimate includes:
  • Expression Blend + SketchFlow
  • Expression Web + SuperPreview

• Expression Web 3 to Expression Studio 4 Web Professional
  To upgrade Expression Web, download Expression Studio 4 Web Professional.
  Expression Studio 4 Web Professional includes:
  • Expression Web + SuperPreview
  • Expression Encoder
  • Expression Design

Finally, install and launch your Expression 4 trial. The trial will be automatically converted to a full, licensed copy of Expression. This process will leave your version 3 product intact—it will not be removed.

Please note:

1) The automatic upgrade will only work on retail copies of Expression products. These are typically product versions that were purchased and come in a box or were downloaded from Digital River or the Microsoft Store.

2) The automatic upgrade requires that the version 3 product is (or was) installed on the machine you are installing version 4 on. You cannot use a version 3 product key on a version 4 product. Please keep your version 3 product, as you will need to install and license it if you upgrade to a new computer.

How to Upgrade to Expression 4—Volume Licensing Customers

First—go to the Volume Licensing Service Center and log in.

Second—download version 4.

Third—install.

That’s it.
