2 Class Hours Author: Aseem Badshah A tutorial to create and edit designs with Expression Design’s vector-based drawing tools, produce graphical effects, and change settings for optimization . The tutorial provides details to export images and files for use on the Web. The images created can be used in the Expression Web Quick Start Tutorial: Beaches Around the World. 2 Class Hours Author: Aseem Badshah This fast paced beginner lesson introduces basic Expression Web techniques for creating HTML pages with layers, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), interactive buttons, and Dynamic Web Templates plus several fun and cool extras. The topic of this project is Richard Tapia’s amazing, award-winning 1970 Chevelle show car – Heavy Metal. Dr. Tapia is a professor in the Computational and Applied Mathematics Department at Rice University whose moveable work of art has taken first prize at national car shows!
4-6 Class Hours (3-5 hours of out-of-class learning) Author: Patricia Phillips A tutorial through the process of creating ASPX pages with layers, Master Pages, CSS, interactive buttons and a calendar. It provides an introductory explanation of the Web concepts included; the project included in this tutorial can be expanded with additional research on the topic of animals.
10-15 Class Hours (7-12 hours of out-of-class learning) Author: Patricia Phillips A complete teaching and learning curriculum unit and tutorial with lesson plans, student projects, and assessment tools. Use Expression Web to create standard HTML pages with layers, Dynamic Web Templates, CSS, and interactive buttons. The topic e-cessories (electronic accessories), is based upon the essential question, “What e-cessory—electronic accessory or device—has had the greatest impact upon you, your family, friends, or community?” Suggestions for using this unit within several curricular areas are included. These teaching and learning materials are aligned with national technology standards. ASPX pages require a server with IIS if the site is to be posted on the Internet. Projects will render correctly on classroom computers within the Expression Web development environment which includes an internal development server.

This teacher-created and student-tested curriculum is an extensive collection of creative teaching and learning materials that thoroughly spans Web Design knowledge and skills and promotes meaningful, real-world learning experiences. Feedback from more than 70 teachers has been incorporated in this curriculum unit. This preface document provides details on the scope and sequence, teaching resources, and the national learning standards of the 8 modules in the Introduction to Web Design Using Microsoft Expression Studio curriculum. 5 Class Hours Author: Tanya Baxter Module 1 explores the past and future of Web technologies and the structure of the Web. The rights and responsibilities surrounding intellectual property rights in an electronic world are emphasized. 10 Class Hours Author: Rita Woodfill Module 2 introduces basic HTML tags and cascading style sheets (CSS) through projects designed to help students experiment with page design. It also introduces the concepts of Web standards and accessibility. 10 Class Hours Author: Dave Burkhart Module 3 explores human communication and the unique challenges that electronic modes of interaction present for effective transmission of ideas. Projects focus on the use of design principles to communicate successfully with a Web audience. 15 class Hours Author: Elizabeth Clarke Module 4 uses Microsoft Expression Design to create the images that are used in the Web projects in Module 7. Concepts related to scanning, digital photography, and image manipulation techniques are included. 10 class Hours Author: Rita Woodfill Module 5 introduces students to the Expression Web environment and provides tutorials to guide them as they learn how to create a Web site. Advanced Web design concepts including Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Dynamic Web Templates, Master Pages, and interactive elements are introduced. 15 class Hours Author: Susan Boone Module 6 explores Web technology careers and simulates the planning process used by professional Web designers. Team collaboration and customer interactions are emphasized as students plan a Web site project for an organization. (The project planned in this module is created in Module 7.) 15 class Hours Author: David Jacobus Module 7 guides students to produce the Web site that was planned and designed in Module 6. This module is lab intensive, with the educator serving primarily as a resource person. (The planning for this module occurs in Module 6.) 10 class Hours Author: Dave Burkhart Module 8 establishes processes and techniques for selecting hosting services, evaluating the effectiveness and usability of Web sites and providing maintenance over time. Students are asked to reflect on the entire Web design process and the skills that are valuable for Web technology careers in the last module of the curriculum unit.
